We’re getting rather excited here at the Two Moors Festival, as we’ve just managed to score two tickets to the semi-finals of this year’s Leeds International Piano Competition on September 9th – and we can’t wait!
No idea who we’ll be privileged enough to watch perform as yet (since the competition’s not started yet!), but we’re already looking forward to attending what is one of the most prestigious piano events in the world.
Founded in 1961 by Dame Fanny Waterman and Marion Thorpe, The Leeds – as the contest has become known in the classical music world – takes place every three years and, with a first prize of £18,000, has helped kick-start the careers of some of the greatest pianists ever. The names Andras Schiff, Dimitri Alexeev and Viktoria Postnikova might ring a bell!
The jury for this year includes Dame Fanny, Christopher Elton, Pavel Gililov, Daejin Kim, Robert Levin, John O’Conor and Adam Gatehouse.
Even more exciting for classical music fans and followers of the Two Moors Festival is that we’ve agreed to hold a recital with one of the winners of the competition some time next year, so watch this space for more news.
Who’s your favourite to win the competition this year?
